Larry Bruce Cartlidge: November 28, 1943 – June 29, 2025
Bruce left us peacefully on June 29, 2025 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife Myrna, children Heather (Phil Hines) and James (Crystal), step-children Duncan, Andrew, Douglas and Donna Ferguson and grandchildren: Jordan, Kelsey, & Bryson (Heather), Emma & Jimmy (James), Kara & Bryce (Duncan), Madelyn & Max (Andrew), Danielle (Donna) and Jeremy (Bruce), sister Linda Heape. He was predeceased by his first wife Judy (Moreau) in 2000, step-son Bruce Ferguson in 2021 and brother in law Wayne Heape in 2018.
Bruce was born in Souris, Manitoba on November 28, 1943. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served over 35 years before retiring in 1995 as a Chief Petty Officer First Class. Bruce and Judy enjoyed postings across Canada including Halifax, Trenton, Borden, Winnipeg and Esquimalt. Over the course of multiple sailings throughout his career, Bruce accumulated a total of 13 years at sea. He completed his naval service as the CPO1 responsible for Officers Messes in BC.
Myrna and Bruce travelled to Palm Desert for 7 winters and enjoyed summers in Mill Bay and Victoria gardening and spending time with family.
The family would like to thank all staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Veterans Memorial Lodge for their kind and loving care of Bruce over the past year. A special thanks to Yvonne for hosting the Tuesday and Thursday happy hours in the Oak Room at Broadmead Lodge. Bruce thoroughly enjoyed the great entertainment.
In lieu of flowers those wishing could make a donation in memory of Bruce to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital or Veterans Memorial Lodge.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Home, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC at 2:00 PM on September 13, 2025.
A private interment has occurred at the Souris & Glenwood Cemetery.
