Splett, Irene Sylvie

Irene Sylvie Splett was born in Grande Clairiere, Manitoba to Leon and Jeanne Charles on November 19, 1935. Mom grew up with 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Mom attended school in Grande Clairiere, and her religious training was taken in the Catholic Church.

On September 26, 1953, Mom exchanged wedding vows with Rienhold (Ron) Splett. Together they raised a family of four in Hartney – Rudy, Darlene, Randy and Jason.

Mom was an active member of the Legion, Evening League, Recycling and the Hartney Curling Club.

Mom enjoyed her gardens and always grew a large garden full of many vegetables. She would make lots of preserves and frozen vegetables from the bounty to enjoy in the winter months. She also had a large flower garden and some of her favorites were her peonies, tulips and rosebushes.

Mom had many fond memories from the grandchildren a few including; Grandma taking them swimming in the Hartney Pool, making her famous hamburgers, sleepovers with Grandma and Grandpa and attending as many events as she could. Irene loved her children and grandchildren deeply and that was obvious when she would light up at the sight or a story of any of them.

A private funeral services was held at the Riverside Cemetery Hartney, Manitoba on Monday July 21, 2025. In memory of Irene, donations may be made to the Hartney Community Health Centre c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 280 Hartney, Manitoba R0M 0X0.

  9. To Irene’s family. Your Mom was always so busy in her beautiful garden behind my Grandparent’s trailer and later Uncle Gerald’s house. What a nice little community you all had at on the east end of town.
