It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dennis Tanguay, at the age of 80, on December 22, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born on May 19, 1945 in Souris, Manitoba, the 2nd oldest of 4 children born to Olive and Roy Tanguay. In 1953, Dennis contracted polio and spent approximately 8 months in the King Edward Hospital in Winnipeg while he recovered.
Dennis started working at his family’s store, Macleod’s Hardware, at the age of 11 in 1956. He worked there
Pat, 66 years, beloved wife of Roger Tinant, mother of Sheri, Michael and Brian. Pat passed away at the Souris Health Centre on November 8, 2024. In keeping with Pat’s wishes there will be no service. In memory of Pat, donations may be made to the Souris Hospital Palliative Care Fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 10 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.
George Torrance, beloved Father of Dean, Jill, and Tim passed away in Calgary, September 7th at the age of 87 years, with his family at his side. Special thanks to the staff on Unit 46 of the Foothills Medical Center for their very compassionate care before his passing.
George was born on the family farmstead near Griswold on January 4th, 1936 to George Sr. and Jessie (Durston). He was the youngest of three, John, Joan, and George Jr.

Ray, 79 years, beloved father of Stephanie, Nicholas and Dallas. Ray passed away in the Souris Health Centre, on Monday, April 10, 2023. In keeping with Ray’s wishes there will be a private service at a later date. In memory of Ray, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
Muriel passed away peacefully at the Souris Personal Care Home on Saturday, March 11, 2023. She was predeceased by WJ and Gordon. She leaves to mourn, Murray, Pat (Rick), Ron, Shelley (Al), granddaughters Kelly (Brad Bamford) and their son Evan, Brittany (Ryan Maclellan) and their children, Brock and Kennedy.
Muriel Edith Wright was born March 20, 1928 and came to Carroll, Manitoba August 27, 1947 as a teacher. She taught grades 5-8 at Carroll School. At that time the population in Carroll
Margaret Irene Tufts (nee Latimer) from Boissevain, Elgin, Souris and then Boissevain again, passed away on January 10, 2023 at the Westview Lodge. Mom passed away peacefully with family right beside her. She was born on January 6, 1928 across the town of Boissevain at 513 Cook Street where her grandmother lived. She managed to see her 95th birthday but was not really well enough to enjoy it, as she passed away four days later.

Thomas: Betty, 88 years, beloved wife of the late George Thomas, mother of Bettina (Michael) Smith, passed away in the Souris Personal Care Home on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. In keeping with Betty’s wishes no service will be held. In memory of Betty, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Bill (William) Tanguay passed away on March 17, 2022 in Souris after a brief illness. Bill is survived by his loving wife Betty (Elizabeth), two children Jennifer (Lee) and Chris, his brother Dennis (Cheryl), his sisters Mary Ann and Pat (George), his sisters-in-law Val and Donna, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill lived his entire life in Souris. He and his brother Dennis ran a successful business in town for over 40 years before retiring. Bill was an active member of the Souris community.
Anita Violet (Atkinson) Thomas passed away peacefully with family surrounding her on March 2, 2022. She was born December 29, 1923, in the Whitewater District, to Harrel and Elizabeth (Troop) Atkinson. Anita was the 5th child, and the first daughter to join the family. When Anita was still an infant, they moved to the Melgund District. She went to school in Melgund and Hartney, finishing Grade 12 by correspondence as this grade was not available in Hartney. On November 27, 2021, 21 with heavy hearts we said Good-bye to our Mom, Verbena Mae Turnbull at Hartney Community Health Centre. Mom was born September 17, 1940 at Souris Hospital to Eddie & Eva Maguire, the youngest of 8. She was predeceased by her dance partner and husband, Howard Turnbull. Her brothers; Melford, Jack, George and his wife Jean, and her beloved sister Gwenda (married to Bob Hughes). Brother in law, Arnold Sagman (married to sister Eileen). Sister in law Corrine (Turnbull)
