Austin, Kenneth Harvey

Kenneth Harvey Austin ~ January 17, 1955 – July 28, 2024

“Turk” spent most of his childhood in Hartney hanging out with the boys. He was always on the sidelines cheering on the Hartney Imperials ball team and the Hartney Blues hockey team.

Ken started working “on the gang” with C.P. Rail which led to a life-long career in the C. P. Rail yard in Calgary, Alberta.

He decided to once again call Manitoba home and lived here until his passing.

Turk will be remembered for his love of playing cards, watching movies and playing Bat out of Hell (by Meatloaf) loudly and repetitively.

Ken was predeceased by his mother Pat Austin and Uncle Tom Austin.

He is survived by some cousins, some good old friends from Hartney and close friend, Lois Charles.

A time of fellowship will be held September 14, 2024 from 2 – 4 at the Hartney Legion.

Donations in memory of Ken can be sent to: Safe & Warm c/o Samaritan House Ministries 820 Pacific Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0J1

  1. I remember Ken (Turk) always joking and making us laugh. He had a kind and generous soul.
My deepest condolences to Ken’s family and friends.

  2. Just now seen that Ken had passed away this summer. Condolences to all his remaining family and friends. I remember growing up that his Mom Pat and Uncle Tom did some work for my parents on occasion, nice family. Ken growing up was always ready to greet you with a smile and his jovial laugh. I had the occasion to see him in 2024, and after introducing myself we were able to briefly chat. He was a genuine fellow even after all these years. RIP Ken. Fred & Sandra King
