EDITH EARLEY (MCCONECHY) Peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, Edith passed away at 83 years of age. Edith was born in 1931, in Hayfield, MB and spent her childhood on the family farm. She completed her training as an RN in Winnipeg at the Grace Hospital where she made many lifelong friends. After graduating, she moved to Souris to work in the hospital and there met and married Bill, a young pharmacist in the town. Bill and Edith moved to Brandon in 1955 and then to Erickson in 1963 where Bill owned his own Pharmacy. While in Erickson they raised their family and were actively involved in the community. Edith returned to nursing when her children were older and worked at Erickson Hospital until her retirement. Edith had a curious mind and a strong work ethic. She was part of a committee to develop an airstrip for the town and was the first female in the area to acquire her private pilot’s licence; she held a seat on the town council and served on numerous committees both locally and provincially. In 1996, Bill and Edith retired to Paradise Village where they enjoyed a full and active life. They travelled extensively throughout their married life and spent their winters in Florida until Bill’s death in 2004. Edith was predeceased by her father, Ewart; mother Lena; brother John and sister Jean. She is survived by her daughters Cindy (Rob), Barbara (Joe), Roberta (Rob) and son Glen (Christine), grandchildren, Marc, Ian, Alexandra, Marina, Owen, Eric, Megan, William and Leah. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Links Personal Care Home for all their care and kindness to Mum over the past year. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Edith’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba. “Mum, you were a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We will miss you and love you forever.”
