Jewell, Wellington Ralph

JEWELL: Ralph, 83 years, beloved husband of the late Coreen Jewell, passed away in Souris, Manitoba on Thursday, February 20, 2020.

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father and Grandfather, Wellington Ralph Jewell.  Ralph was born on April 5, 1936 in Woodyatt Township in Northwestern Ontario to the late Wellington and Blanche Jewell.  Ralph was predeceased by his loving wife Coreen and daughter Shelley.

Family was deeply important to Ralph, and he will be greatly missed by his children Wellington Wayne, Michael, and Laura Lee, his grandchildren Kirstan (Mitch), Wellington Nicholas (Feleasha), Lisa (Sean), Mallory (Haydn) and Jonathon (Laura).  He will also be greatly missed by the children who became family during his life with Coreen; Ken (Margaret), Carole (Jeff), Sandy, and Sharon, grandchildren Sarah (James), Ellen (Andrew), Anastasia (John), Kyle (Charissa), Kayla, and Courtney.  He will also be missed by numerous great grandchildren, his brother Ray, sisters Grace, Bonnie and Arlene, his extended families and dear friends including Julia.  Ralph was predeceased by grandson Ryan, daughter-in-law Katherine and sister Jean earlier this year.

Ralph took great pride in his military, aviation and industrial experience and those experiences shaped much of who he was as a family and community minded man.  He was a decorated Veteran, with 20 years of service with the Canadian Armed Forces.  He was an avid pilot for more than 50 years.  He was an accomplished tradesman, and held many of his 13 provincial certifications until his passing.  Over the years, and through various communities, Ralph was generous with his time and involvement, as you would find him serving and supporting our Royal Canadian Legion branches, flying clubs and most recently the Fellowship Club and Seniors for Seniors Club in Brandon.

A tribute to Wellington Ralph’s life was held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the St. Paul’s United Church in Souris, Manitoba followed by lunch at the Legion, Branch #60 in Souris.  Private family interment followed.

The family would like to Thank Dr. Cram for ensuring Ralph lived a long and healthy life.  Additional thanks to the team of emergency personnel for their tender care.

Memorial donations may be made, in Ralph & Coreen Jewell’s memory, to the Souris Health Centre Palliative Care Fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 10 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.
