Irene Josephine Catherine Charles (nee Dooley)

It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Irene Charles, on May 14, 2025.

Irene was born December 12, 1930, the first of eleven children born to Frank and Henrietta (Martine) Dooley. She had six brothers and four sisters. She lived in Hartney since 1958. She married John Charles on May 16, 1949.  John died on November 30, 2007.

Besides her husband John, she was pre-deceased by four brothers, two sisters, one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law: John (Joan) Dooley, Joe, Henry, Maurice, Annette Robson, Marie (Maurice) Mahy and Leo Peloquin.

She is survived by her son Jack (Kathy Wightman), and her daughters Geraldine (Doug) Rozander and Brenda (Rod) Williamson. She is also survived by her grandchildren Janet (Lyle) Laybolt, Heather (Chad) Cooley, Scott Rozander, Jennifer (Rene) Pedersen, R.J. (Stephanie) Williamson, Kara Williamson (Quintin Blain), and 9 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters Cecile (Edward) Vinck, Yvonne (Noel) Fisher, and brothers Ted (Darlene) Dooley and David Dooley, brother-in-law Jack Robson, sisters-in-law Corrine Dooley, Diana Dooley, and Georgina Dooley.

Family and friends meant everything to Irene. She took pride in attending every grandchild’s’ graduation. She cherished the family meals when we were able to get together.

A celebration of Irene’s life was held at the Hartney Centennial Centre on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Private interment in the Hartney Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Irene, donations may be made to the Hartney Community Health Centre, Stars Air Ambulance or a charity of your choice.

  1. I only met Irene a few months ago when she was a roommate of my mums in Souris Hospital. Always so friendly, smiling and grateful for a visit. She had great stories. She was very patient too when mum was trying to “help” her. Sincere sympathy to all.

  2. Very sorry to hear of your loss, your parents were a big part of my childhood and a lot of good memories. I was sorry to miss the memorial
