  1. Such sad, shocking news about Jackie’s passing. I had the honour of working with Jackie in junior high at Juniper School in Thompson, Manitoba. She’s was always professional and helpful to students and other staff. Years later, I also enjoyed Friday breakfast with her and other Westwood teachers when we both moved on to other educational endeavors. Condolences to Murray, Jackie’s family and friends. Fondly, Elaine Thompson

  6. Jackie was my Grade 7 and 8 teacher at Westwood in the late 90’s. She was a teacher who thought outside the box and pushed you to do your best. It was wonderful to visit Jackie and Murray whenever passing through Souris on a trip to Saskatchewan. Jackie had a love of dogs, and on a walk last summer told me how she knew more of the dog’s names’ in town than their owners. From talking about curling to reminiscing about Thompson, a day spent with Jackie always flew by. I will miss her.

I had the good fortune to work with Jackie when she was teaching at Juniper School in Thompson. She was a terrific teacher and brought great gifts to a junior high team that was cohesive, close knit and a joy to be part of. Teaching junior high is not the easiest of assignments. Watching Jackie work with, and manage, groups of kids with different skill sets, interests and behaviours was always such a pleasure – mostly because she always made it look so easy! She had that rare combination of kindness and fun, but always with an unmistakable sense of strength at it’s core. She was also, unfailingly, a generous and helpful colleague.

I’ve always been sure there’s a special place in heaven for great teachers. I’m so sorry Jackie is gone, but at least I know where she’s at.

I’ve known Jackie from our early years (the 60’s) in Thompson to us all ending up in Souris for retirement. Even though we didn’t see each other very often, we could pick right up from where we left off. Happy to say that we ended our last visit with a hug!!

Jackie was my best friend for 45 years. We were both at Juniper when I came to Thompson in 1980 and became friends almost immediately. We have continued to keep connected all the many years.

She was an amazing teacher and had such a special way with her students! Jackie taught kids from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and had the ability to connect with them all.

Jackie I will miss you so much and think of you every day!
