Pomeroy, Florence Anna

Pomeroy — Florence Anna It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother Florence Anna Pomeroy on December 23, 2014 at the Souris Hospital.  Florence was born to parents John and Nellie Kunka on March 24, 1939 in Pine River, MB.  She moved to the Souris area in 1944 with her family. She attended school at Lilly and Souris as well as business college in Brandon. Florence worked with the Royal Bank in Brandon and Souris.  Florence married the love of her life Clifford Pomeroy on June 17, 1961. They lived on a farm northeast of Souris for many years.  Sons were born, Blaine 1965 and Gary 1968. The family moved into Souris in 1979. Florence went back to work at the Souris Hospital until illness forced her to retire in the mid 90’s. Next to the love of her family, a clean house, pristine flower and vegetable gardens were her passion.  She was also a fabulous baker.  She spent many hours in the early years hauling the boys to their ball, hockey and school activities. Later she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities.  Somehow she also had the time and energy to belong to the Souris Legion Ladies Auxiliary, United Church UCW and the Souris & District Heritage Club. Florence was predeceased by her parents John and Nellie Kunka, brothers-in-law, Bert Malo, George Slifka and sister-in-law Amy Kunka. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Clifford Pomeroy, sons Blaine and Gary (Allison).  She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Amber and Gavin.  Also left to mourn Florence are her siblings, Tony, Mike (June), Jimmy, Lil, Mary, Elsie, Jean (Don), sister-in-law Betty Clevett and their families. A private interment took place at the Souris Cemetery followed by the funeral service at St. Paul’s United Church on Monday, December 29. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at Souris Hospital for their excellent care of Florence during her time there. Also to Dexter Kowalchuk and Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home for their professional services. Rev. Wendy Ranken for the lovely service and St. Paul’s United Church Ladies for providing the luncheon.  Thank you so  much to our  friends and family for their love and support during this difficult time. Donations in memory of Florence may be made to The Plum c/o Souris and District Heritage Club Inc., Box 1305, Souris, MB R0K 2CO, or to any charity of choice, if so desired.

“Forever in our hearts, always in our memories.”
