(February 26,1929~October 12, 2012)
RAE: It is with deep sorrow and sadness Glen Stewart Rae left us October 12, 2012 peacefully with family by his side in the Souris & District Hospital. Glen was born February 26, 1929. He is survived his devoted wife Fern, sister and brother-in-law Hazel and Nelson Olson, nieces Lisa (Hal) Otto, Donelda (Terry) Wotton, and nephew Eric (Lori) Olson. Their family Joel Otto, Jenniece Wotton and Reed Olson. Step-sons Butch (Lynne) Locke, Bruce (Cindy) Locke and step-daughter Marion (Wayne) McEntee and their families. Aunt Gladys Carmichael, cousins Pat (Terry) Cameron and the Lovegrove families. He was predeceased by his mother, father, uncles Alec, Russ and Jim and an Aunt Effie. Also by Ron and Sharon Locke. Glen was raised on the farm at Terence,
MB. He took his schooling at Milan School and then a degree in agriculture in Winnipeg.
Farming was his passion. In earlier years when times got tough he worked at Gulf Oil in Virden for a few years, and also drove a fuel truck for Paul’s Hauling. His trucking companion Bill Hall was one of many lasting friends made during this time. Glen and his parents spent several winters in Texas which he enjoyed very much. He was a great baseball enthusiast whether it be at the game or on TV. Enjoyed horse racing, supported
the local hockey teams, was on the Town Council, a life member of the Lion’s Club and
a member of the United Church. Glen became very interested in the restoration of old John
Deere tractors, traveled miles to pick up a wreck and with help had it like new in no time.
Through this hobby he became a member of the Pioneer Club. Glen and I took several interesting trips, enjoyed our years of dancing and lately playing cards, meeting and making many lasting friendships. His daily trips to the coffee shop were a must. Thanks guys. He appreciated a visit from anyone who dropped by – A visit from the little kids always made his day. In spite of several health issues and his gruff appearance he was a tender loving person.
“We will all miss him”
Funeral service was held October 18, 2012 at Saint Paul’s United Church with a private interment at the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery.
