Taylor, Elaine Ruth

Friends are like stars, they come and go, but the ones that stay are the ones that glow.

TAYLOR, Elaine Ruth, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 13, 2013. Elaine was born on August 28, 1933 and grew up on the family farm in Hartney.  As an adult she moved to Boissevain in 1973 which allowed her to participate in support programming for individuals living with intellectual disabilities.  During her many years there, Elaine fostered many special and long lasting friendships with other residents and support staff.  Part of the residential support experience meant that Elaine was given the opportunity to expand her social opportunities by traveling to many other parts of Canada.  Elaine traveled to Edmonton to experience the West Edmonton Mall and also had a memorable trip to Niagara Falls to name just two places she visited.  One of her favorite experiences was camping with other residents and friends and she very much enjoyed these annual adventures whether the camp was nearby like the International Peace Gardens or a bit further afield.

Elaine was very proud of her participation in various creative projects at The Hand Crafter over the yearswhether it was weaving custom made lawn chairs or coat hangers or painting lawn and garden ornaments.  Many members of Elaine’s immediate family have been lucky recipients of Elaine’s handicraft work over the years and will treasure these items for many years to come.

Elaine was the family member who could be counted on to remember special family dates — whether it was a birthday or an anniversary; Elaine would have the details down.  She also enjoyed following the accomplishments and life milestones of the residents of Hartney — readily discussing who was graduating from high school or getting married.  She loved following wedding stories and learning about all the details of neighbor’s wedding.

Elaine was especially close to her mother Ellen and sister Dorothy.  She enjoyed traveling with Ellen and Mel to visit family and friends all over the country.   These two special people in her life were her centre and she dearly missed them both when they passed away.

Elaine is survived by her brother-in-law Wilfred Coe, nephews Jim Coe (Gaye), and children: Robert, his daughter Kianna, and Teresa, and Brad Coe (Lorna), and their children: Kevin, Melissa (Scott), Julie, Timothy (Chantal). Nephews Dan, Arnold and Wayne (Micheline) Lindbloom and children Jocelyn and Serena; nieces, Marie (Gordon Matheson) and their children Scott and Graeme and Alana (Garry Gosling); She was predeceased by her father, Robert John Taylor, mother Ellen Taylor-McBurney, step-father Melvin McBurney, and sisters Phyllis and Dorothy, as well brother-in-law George Lindbloom and nephew Philip Lindbloom.

A private family memorial service will occur later in the summer.

Those we love don’t go away

They walk beside us everyday

Unseen, unheard,

but always near

Still loved, still missed

and very dear.
