Dad was born on December 8, 1930 at the family farm, in the same room that his own dad was born. He passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025 with family by his side. October 8 was also his parent’s anniversary.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Lone) and his parents Gordon and Christina Dodds. Brother and sister in laws, aunts and uncles, 7 nephews and 4 nieces, and cousins.
He is survived by his daughter Tannis (Clint) and his son Cam (Maralee), grandchildren; Tara (Corey), Melissa
Jim, 87 years, beloved husband of the late Myrt Refvik, father of Coralee, Mitchell and the late Kurt. Jim passed away at the Souris Personal Care Home on September 21, 2025. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, a private family interment was held at the Boissevain Cemetery. In memory of Jim, donations may be made to the Brandon Humane Society.
William George (Bill) Lawson was born on January 8, 1946 to Bob and Margaret Lawson in Carman Manitoba. Bill grew up at Maple Grove Farm northeast of Miami, Manitoba with his sister Donna and brothers Ray and Doug.
Bill attended school in Miami, MB for his elementary and high school years. From there, he attended United College to obtain a Bachelor of Science, followed by a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. After graduating from University, he taught for six months in
Reta Janet Cowan 1932-2025
Reta passed away at Hartney Community Health Centre on September 14, 2025. Reta was predeceased by her husband Art, her brother Lorne, and her daughter Kay. She was a loving Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother. Her family meant the world to her, and she kept up with each and everyone of them.
Reta grew up on the family farm “Sweet 16” near Deleau Manitoba. She was actively involved in the day-to-day happenings of farm life. Reta
Ernie was the twelfth child (sixth son) out of thirteen children born to Katharina and Heinrich Janzen. He was born on July 1, 1943 in St. Rose, Manitoba.
He accepted the Lord as his saviour at about age six. This love for Jesus continued to grow throughout his entire life. The Janzens were a very musical family, and they were always singing hymns and songs together.
He spent eight years in Bower School, then two more years taking Gr. 9 and 10 by correspondence there. In about 1959,
Ken, 80 years, beloved husband of Arva Wiess, father of Tara and Kim (Brad) Adamko, grandpa of Ryan and Scott. Ken passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on August 23, 2025. A memorial reception for family and friend will be held at St. Paul’s United Church Auditorium, Souris on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. Private interment in the Souris & Glenwood Cemetery. Maurice, 87 years, beloved husband of the late Sherril Hardy, father of Chris, Michelle, Elizabeth and Suzanne. Maurice passed away at the Souris Health Centre on August 19, 2025. William (Bill) Alan Hall was born on March 29, 1937. He was the 12th of 13 children born to Gilbert and Mary Hall of Virden.
Bill spent his early years as a child helping on his family’s farm. In his early 20’s Bill started working for Paul Albrechtsen, hauling water in Virden.
In December of 1959, Bill married Edith Gertz and they moved to Winnipeg where he continued to work for Paul’s Hauling. Bill and Edith went on to have 5 children – Brian, Dale, Warren, Grant, and
Irene Sylvie Splett was born in Grande Clairiere, Manitoba to Leon and Jeanne Charles on November 19, 1935. Mom grew up with 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Mom attended school in Grande Clairiere, and her religious training was taken in the Catholic Church.
On September 26, 1953, Mom exchanged wedding vows with Rienhold (Ron) Splett. Together they raised a family of four in Hartney – Rudy, Darlene, Randy and Jason.
Mom was an active member of the Legion, Evening League, Recycling and the Hartney
Marion passed away July 7, 2025 in the Souris Hospital with her children by her side. She had been ill for many months, but remained in her home until 2 weeks before her passing.
Marion will be remembered by her three children and families; Debbie (Joe) Baker, Wayne (Brenda) Morris and Margery (Brian) Croft.
