Heape, Bertha Mary

It is with great sadness I announce the passing of my mom, Bertha Mary Heape, who passed away at the Souris Health Centre on March 10, 2023 at the age of 79 years.
Mom was born to Delbert and Lavinia Russell in Deloraine, Manitoba on July 23, 1943. She lived in Dand until moving to Hartney. Mom spoke fondly of her railroad trips with her parents and her sister Lucy.

Hennessy, George Ritchie Gunter

George Hennessy of Oak Lake, Manitoba was born November 2, 1941 in Kenora, Ontario. George passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the Health Sciences Centre – Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 16, 2023.

George spent his earlier years in Kenora before the family moved to Winnipeg. George moved to Oak Lake in 1981 after purchasing the Oak Land Hotel.

Haskett, Bernice Alberta

Bernice Alberta (Raymer) Haskett

Bernice passed away peacefully April 30, 2023 at the Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg.

She was born April 27, 1929 at Minto, MB and was the eldest child of Fred and Marge Raymer. Following her school days, she was employed by the Manitoba Telephone System in Minto.

She married Len Haskett in 1948 which resulted in a strong partnership that lasted over 66 years. Len was in the employ of Manitoba Hydro and they moved to Souris in 1966 after having lived in Glenboro, MacGregor, Churchill and Grand Marais.

Mom carried her small town sense of community with her throughout her life. She had a way of engaging friends and strangers and will be remembered for her outgoing personality and genuine interest in other people. She was a life long member of the United Church. Her love of music included playing the piano and singing in the choir.

Mom moved to Seine River Assisted Living in Winnipeg in September 2022 where she made new friends among the residents and staff.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Len and her brother Bob.

Left to cherish her memory is son Greg (Edie); grand children Shannon (Derrick), Jillian (Grant); great grandchildren Lachlan, Lennon, Sawyer and Piper; sisters Beth Harrison and Joan Denoon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to all the family who spent time with Mom prior to her passing and their reminding her that she was well loved.

Hansen, Stanley Herman

Stan Hansen: Stan, 91 years, beloved husband of Gerry Hansen, father of Alvin, Kelly and Cara (Alex) Butler, grandfather of Michael and Amanda (Scott) and great grandpa of Lillian. Stan passed away in the Souris Health Centre Home, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. In keeping with Stan’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Houston, Lena (Lee) Alice

Houston: In loving memory of Lena Alice Houston (Cluett) who left us to be with her parents, twin sister and husband on June 18, 2022.

Lee was living at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. Born in Squamish, British Columbia on November 13, 1936, along with her twin sister Lily, to Fred and Eugenia Cluett. The family lived in Squamish until the Second World War broke out. They moved to North Vancouver where Fred worked as a welder in the ship yards. Lee started school in North Vancouver in 1941. The family then moved to Penticton B.C, in 1946. When Lee was about 14 they moved again to Souris, Manitoba and she finished her schooling with a Commercial Diploma. She packed her bags and headed to Winnipeg, Manitoba where she was employed at Century Motors as a billing clerk. While working there she met Wanda Houston and they became roommates. Through Wanda she met her husband Richard Houston and they were married September 7, 1957. They lived on Carlaw Avenue in Winnipeg until Richards sudden passing March 25, 1991.

She left Century Motors to open her own used book store, (Family Book Exchange) on St. Mary’s Road until she retired. Lee purchased a home on Brentford Road with a yard that she loved to tend to. Lee planted a garden and was always giving away her produce. Her flowers and grass were always very beautiful.

She entertained lots of family and friends on many occasions. She spoke fondly of her ever helpful neighbours. Lee was very active in her church, St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church in Winnipeg. She loved singing in the choir and her Red Hat Ladies.

Lena has left behind her brother Bob Cluett and family of Whiterock British Columbia, her brother in law; Bill Rolston, nephew Ralph; (Tanya), Ella, Jack, Thomas Rolston, niece; Maralee (Cam), Rhett and Madison Dodds, sisters in law; Wanda (Doug) Molnur and family of Ottawa, Ontario, Ila McGuinness and family of California.

Funeral service was held at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, 3 St Vital Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. click to read more

Howell, Sharon Lee

Sharon Lee Howell (O’Hearne) passed away on February 9,2022, at the young age of 71 after a brief fight with cancer in Souris Manitoba. With her only child Nicolle (Nikki)& son in-law Darryl Moreau by her side.

HARGREAVES, Donald Howard. 91 years old, died peacefully  in the Souris Personal Care Home on May 23, 2021. Heath, Clinton John

HEATH: It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Clinton John Heath of Souris, Manitoba on August 13, 2020 at the age of 45 years after a lengthy and very courageous battle with cancer.

Clint is survived by his best friend and wife of 22 years Amy (Rafnkelsson) Heath, children Abby and Ty of Souris. Also father Garnet Heath, Mother Jean Heath, sister Zoe and special niece Vanessa (Marc), Grandmother Doris Heath. Left to grieve also is Amy’s parents, Jan & Eric, sister Becky, Grandma Hazel Scharien and many relatives and friends.

Clint built a very successful landscape company in Souris and approached every job with creativity and professionalism. He was an incredible role model for his family and friends.

The family appreciates all the love and support they have received but due to the Covid 19 group restrictions they ask that family and close friends attend a celebration of Clint’s life that was  held at the Souris & Glenwood Cemetery, Souris, Manitoba on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
