Devins, J. Ferg

I could have used it and in fact did use it originally but we all know of all his numerous accomplishments and awards so it just seemed too factual and not about the actual Dad Ferg Devins. So here goes!

Douglas, Roy William

Douglas: Roy Douglas, at the age of 90 years old went to join his wife and soul mate Janet in heaven on Saturday, February 22, 2020.  Dad was born Roy William Douglas on October 28, 1929 in Souris, MB to William and Rosie Douglas.  Dad received his education at Beresford, MB and then started at Manitoba Pool Elevators (now Viterra).  His career spanned over 36 years taking him to Mentieth, Hartney and then eventually completing his career in Souris.  He loved working with the farmers, and many, if not all became lifelong friends.  It is in Souris where he met the love of his life, Janet.  They were married in Souris on July 2, 1960.  They were the perfect couple, both so kind, caring and always willing to help anyone.  Many nights you would catch Dad watching some kind of sports game on tv, attending a game in town or visiting with family and friends.   Dad really loved being an armchair coach for the Jets, Blue Bombers and Blue Jays. Dad was very active in the community, volunteering countless hours wherever he was needed.  Eventually he found his calling at the Fellowship Club, doing many things, but he especially enjoyed being the Treasurer.  He loved playing cards, shuffling or visiting with everyone.  In 1963 they welcomed their son Bill. In 1967, their daughter Linda was born. Dad loved his family more than anything.  He cherished every moment either attending or helping out with whatever they were involved in.  Dad was overjoyed in 1991 when he became a Grandpa to Brett.  In 2018, Dad was again blessed to become Great Grandpa, better known as Grandpa Roy to Owen, who was the apple of his eye.  Dad had many hobbies including woodworking, cabin time, fishing, golfing, and gardening.  Even when he got older, his garden may have got smaller, he still planted one.  Dad was predeceased his soul mate Janet, his mom and dad and mother and father in law.  He is survived by his son Bill (Sheila), daughter Linda, Grandson Brett (Sarah), Great Grandson Owen.  Funeral services took place February 25, 2020 at St Paul’s United Church, officiated by Rev. Harvey Hurren.  Burial was at Souris & Glenwood Cemetery.  In memory of Roy, donations can be made to Souris Personal Care Home Activities and Recreation or Souris Health Centre Palliative Unit (both donations) c/o Prairie Mountain Health, Box 10, Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.
