Barclay, Viola Gjordie

On Monday September 4, 2023, Viola Gjordie Barclay passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Vi was born to Melvin and Alma Scansen on March 25,1929 in Crichton Saskatchewan. She went on to live a wonderfully beautiful life. She was so caring and thoughtful; a person’s spirits could not help but be lifted when you were in her presence. She had a passion for music that was contagious and for years played music entertaining residents of various care homes. She was a bright light in everyone’s life and will be dearly missed. Vi’s family brought her so much joy. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grand children and always had a special gift or word to share with them. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her family will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her brother Dean, sister Jean, five children Arlene, Brenda, Lloyd, Maurija, Melvin and their families.

Vi’s family would like to express sincere appreciation for that she received from the staff of the Hartney and Souris Personal Care Homes and the Souris Hospital, and to Dr. Cram and Dr. Sopel. Thank you also to all who sent flowers, cards and food, all was much appreciated.

A funeral service was held at St. Paul’s United Church in Souris, Manitoba on September 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers please donate to Souris Personal Home Courtyard Fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 10 Souris Manitoba R0K 2C0 or any charity close to your heart.

  1. So sorry to your family in the passing of your Mom,she was a hard working Mom and wife and always had a smile.I feel so lucky to have known your mom since 1952.

  2. I have very fond memories of Vi from her friendship with my Grandma Adair and the love of music they shared, and also more recently, the friendship she shared with my Grandma Deleau. I was able to see her on Grandmas 100th birthday at the hospital in May and she had her usual smile on, that lit up a room! She was always so interested in what our family was up to! Rest in peace Vi! I hope you and my Grandmas have reconnected.
