Zilkey, Sharon Leslie

Sharon Leslie Zilkey (Nee: Hatch)

April 15, 1942-September 4, 2023

It is with deep sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Sharon.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jennifer (Darcy Clevett) and Jon (Jodie): Grandchildren Emerson and Griffin: Sister Linda Hatch: brother-in-law Eric Penner: as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded by her parents Wynne and Harry Hatch: sister Lee Penner.

Sharon was raised in Oak Lake Manitoba.  She attended teachers training at Brandon University.  Sharon taught mainly Kindergarten and Music for over 40 years with the majority of her time being in Grandview school.  While there she made many lifelong friends of the staff, students and community.

A huge passion in her life was music.  She played keyboard for a number of bands – Kool Kats, Generations, Grandview Orchestra, Runaway, and the Twilighters. She led choirs, concerts, festivals, taught piano, and so much more in both Grandview and later Souris.

Other great joys were her cats, the cabin at Oak Lake, gardening and especially flowers. She had beautiful yards and always had flowers in the house all year round.

Sharon’s greatest love was her family and friends.  She recently wrote in one of her journals that some of her fondest memories were spending time with her grandchildren. Sharon was a social butterfly and was happiest being with the people that she loved.

A funeral service was held at St. Paul’s United Church in Souris on September 9, 2023 with a private interment in the Oak Lake Cemetery.

Family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Souris Hospital and Home Care for their exceptional care and compassion. You all have become extended family of Sharon’s.
