After a hard-fought battle with ALS, we have lost our beloved Randy at the age of 65 years.
He is greatly missed by his wife and best friend Shannon, his daughter Crystal (Jacob), his family and countless friends.
Randy was always the first person to offer help and to make sure that any job he did was done RIGHT. He never asked for anything in return, but wouldn’t say no to a rum and coke or a beer.
For 16 years, Randy proudly served his community with the Souris Volunteer Fire Department, receiving a commendation from the Lt. Governor for his bravery during a heroic rescue on the Souris River which saved lives.
He never shied away from adventure, and if he could try something new, he did. He went skydiving, tried parasailing, and even found out he really enjoyed snorkelling during his holidays.
If there was a sport to be played, Sharky played it. He played hockey for most of his life, from childhood where his team in Thompson, MB played in the first ever Munn Cup, to playing as an “oldtimer” with the Souris Barleys.
His favourite pastime in retirement was spending quality time with Shannon and their friends on sunny holidays and at the lake.
We’ll “keep it together!” until we meet again.
A celebration of Randy’s life was held at the Souris & Glenwood Community Hall on March 19, 2025. In memory of Randy donations may be made to the Souris Glenwood Fire Department (Special Equipment) c/o Municipality of Souris-Glenwood Box 518 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0 or to the Souris Glenwood Foundation Box 518 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0.

Shannon, Crystal and family. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Randy’s passing. I knew Randy through work with the CFHA. Although we worked at different sites I came to know him over the years through work functions, meetings and conferences. He was a thoughtful and intelligent man. Although soft spoken, he was always able to lend important input to any situation we were discussing. A fine man taken too soon.
