Peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025 Ronald Leslie Ramsey passed away at the Souris Health Centre with his family by his side.
Ron was born on November 2, 1928 in Lauder, Manitoba and attended Lauder school. In 1948 while working as an apprentice electrician for Atkinson Electric, he caught the eye of a young lady who worked at the MTS building in Hartney. Lucy Blanchard and Ron Ramsey were married June 28, 1950.
This was the beginning of a 72 year romance, filled with love, laughter, hardships and perseverance. After several moves, Ron and Lucy settled on the farm of Lucy’s parents. It was here that they raised their children and worked tirelessly together. In 1990 the farm was sold and Ron and Lucy moved to Hartney, followed by a move to the Victoria Park Lodge in Souris. With Lucy’s passing on July 5, 2022, Ron continued to reside at VPL, surrounded by friends – new and old. He would be seen scooting around town on his scooter, visiting as he went. He cherished his country drives, always pointing out the crops, who lived where and who lived there a half century ago. Together he and Lucy enjoyed square dancing, card playing, curling, baseball and hockey.
During the winter months, trips were taken to Weslaco, Texas. It was here that they would cross the border into Mexico and assist with building homes for the local people. Ron was predeceased by his beloved Lucy and their son Allan, his parents John and Belle Ramsey, his siblings Freda, Arnold, John and Dorothy.
He is survived by his family, Jim (Linda), Cathy Cowan (Doug), Doug (Jodi) and many grand and great grandchildren.
Memorial service was held at the Hartney Centennial Centre on March 23, 2025. Interment will be held in the Lauder Cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the Lauder Cemetery Fund Box 66 Lauder, Manitoba R0M 1C0.

Dear Jim, Cathy, Doug and family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Your father will be greatly missed by all who knew him or had the pleasure to meet him. He was another of those strong Deleau / Lauder / Hartney father figures, so present in many of our lives. The example he provided through his work, humour and family was a standard set for all of us. He has left us with so many pleasant and happy memories. May those many memories soften the grief of his passing.
Sincerely,
Bob, Jo, Danielle & Donovan
