Heape, Wayne Edward

Heape: Wayne Edward

August 27, 1947-April 11, 2018

On April 11, 2018 Wayne passed away suddenly at the age of 70 from a massive heart attack.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 55 years Linda, his 3 children Lisa, Kevin (Chana) and Kirk (Lisa) and his 6 grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Papa Wayne”, Dana, Taylor, Carter, Sarah, Kaden and Micah.  He also leaves to mourn his sister Kathy (Al), his brother Tom (Carol), sister-in-law Evelyn and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was born and raised in Hartney and surrounding district.  He met Linda in 1963 and they married in 1967.  Wayne and Linda raised their family in the Oak Lake area, eventually settling in Portage La Prairie where he established “Wayne Heape Trucking” which he owned and operated until his untimely death.

Always quick witted with a terrific sense of humor and full of many stories to tell.  He was a humble man with a huge heart and thought the best of everyone he met.  He is respected and loved by everyone whose lives he touched.

Never fully retired, he and Linda looked forward to travelling south every winter, where he encouraged his kids and grandkids, who he adored, to come and visit.

There will always be fond memories of his generosity and wiliness to help others.  As an entrepreneur he was number 1, always innovative with his ideas and plans.  As his kids often said “the wheels were always turning”.

Those we love don’t go away.  They walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

A memorial reception was held in celebration of Wayne’s life on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Legion in Souris, Manitoba, following a private family graveside service at the Souris & Glenwood cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to:  PAWS (Portage Animal Welfare Society), 121-12th Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.

  4. So sorry and saddened by the news of Wayne’s passing. I know Wayne as an energetic man. He was always humming tunes when tying down his loads. Here at Hi-Tec we will miss his frequent visits. It seemed that Wayne could smell a good load of pipe from miles away. He could look at a pipe once and new exactly what kind of pipe it was including the dimensions. Our sincere sympathy and prayers are with the family.

    Sincerely,
    Ben Dueck

  6. Linda and family,

Sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. He was a man that stood above many. He was always willing to talk and share his knowledge. He was especially willing to talk to my sons when they were young teenagers learning the pipe business. He will also be remembered by many for his light hearted whistle as he was walking up the laneway.
