Maguire: Eileen Margaret (Nee:Grant) November 7, 1925 – April 14, 2013 It is with sadness we announce the passing of Eileen, peacefully with her family by her side in the Souris Hospital at the age of 87. Eileen was born in Miami, Manitoba, the third of seven children. The family moved to Elgin in 1942. Mom worked there as a telephone operator until she met the love of her life, Gib. They married on October 15, 1949. Together they farmed and raised their two sons Grant and Keith. In 1977 they built a new home and moved into the town of Elgin. Dad passed away in June 1983.
We remember our mother as a caring, loving and happy individual with a great sense of humour and enjoying much laughter. She was active in the community as a member of the U.C.W., Ladies Legion auxiliary and Rebecca’s. She also enjoyed curling, skating and golfing. Eileen was a meticulous homemaker and gardener, enjoying her surroundings with all who came to visit.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Jean Grant, brothers, Laurence and James, and her husband, Gilbert (Gib.) She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Grant (Doris) and Keith (Gary Frain), her two grandsons Wesley (Jen) and Warren, and her three great-grandchildren Caleb, Kristal and Natalie. Also left to mourn are her sisters Evelyn and Shirley, and her two brothers, Ted (Lorna), Marvin (Bev.)
Funeral service was held April 17 at St. Paul’s United Church in Souris, Manitoba. Interment at Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers were her nephews: Larry Maguire, David Maguire, Bill Maguire, Scott Grant, Cord Grant, and Darryl Wilson.
