Moir, Cyril George (Cy)

MOIR: Cyril George (Cy) of Hartney, MB passed away at the Hartney Community Health Centre on June 8, 2013. It is with heavy hearts we say good-bye to our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by his wife Kay and is survived by daughters Linda (Brian) Ormonde and Marsha (Dennis) Wanless and son Jim (Peggy) Moir; grandchildren Wanda (Hugh) Brine, Sean (Tracy) Raison, Kyle Raison, Michael and Mark Ormonde, and Ben, Evan, Whitney and Mallory Moir; great-grandchildren Dylan and Morgan Boryskiewich, Ava & Chloe Raison along with sisters Edith Hayden, Ruth Mansoff and brother Harvey (Evelyn) Moir. After school graduation Dad worked at the Post Office in Hartney before joining the 5th Canadian Armoured Division Postal Unit and served overseas in WWII in England, Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland from 1941-1946. On returning home he was back in the Post Office in Hartney becoming Postmaster from 1954-1980 working for Canada Post for 43 years. Dad was active in all sports – hockey, baseball, curling and golf. Dad also loved to hunt and fish. His love of the outdoors and of nature was passed on to his children. He especially loved watching the bluebirds, wood ducks and humming birds. He was quite proud of his community and always volunteered when asked. He was secretary treasurer for Hartney Junior Sports for many years as well as a charter member of the BPO Elks. He was very proud to be a Life Member of Hartney Legion Branch #26, as well as Life Member of both Hartney Golf Club and Curling Club. Dad loved interacting with the grandkids, boating and fishing with them, playing catch or just watching their sports events. He cherished his summers at the cottage at Clear Lake spending many, many hours fishing. He had an enormous love for music – always tapping his toes to the beat. Dad was a handyman who could always be found tinkering with his latest project. Graveside funeral service was held at the Riverside Cemetery on June 12, 2013 with the Hartney Legion Branch #26 as Honorary Pallbearers. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caring and compassionate staff of the Hartney Community Health Centre. Dad will be sadly missed by all. Donations in Cy’s memory may be made to the Hartney Golf Club – c/o Town of Hartney, Box 339, Hartney, MB, R0M 0X0.
