With great sadness we announce the passing of Annette, Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Annette was the 8th of 11 children (6 boys and 5 girls) born to Frank and Henriette Dooley of Grande Clairiere. She was born at Mrs. Forbes nursing home in Hartney on December 31st, 1940. She and her Mother rode home in Vital Bertholet’s Snow Plane, and she grew up with her 10 siblings on the Dooley Farm just east of Grande Clairiere and attended school at Grande Clairiere.
Annette was pre deceased by four brothers; John, Joe, Henry and Maurice, and four brothers in law; John Charles, Maurice Mahy, Leo Peloquin and Ray Bradshaw, and one sister in law, Joan Dooley. Also her parents; Frank and Henriette, and her father and mother in law Jack and Beatrice Robson. She is survived by two brothers; Ted and David, and four sisters; Irene, Marie, Cecile and Yvonne and sister in law Coreen Dooley, Dianna Dooley, Georgina Dooley, Darlene Dooley and Leona Bradshaw. Annette is also survived by her husband, Jack, of 63 years and 10 months, their children Michael married to Denise Bauche and their children Johnathon, Heather and Wayne Nakonechny and their children Kenzie and Ava. And our Daughter Sharon (Murray Kirkup) and her children, Kimberlee Jones and her daughter Esme, and Chris Bickerton and his children Wyatt and Cheyenne.
Annette and I met on a Saturday night in April, 1957 in Hartney, and we went to a movie at Mr. Arnason’s Theatre. We dated until June of 1959 and were married on June 20th at Bethel United Church, followed by a reception and supper at Annette’s cousins farm, Lucy and Ron Ramsey. We travelled to Clear Lake for our honeymoon, in the 1957 Chevy. We took up residence in a small house in my parent’s farmyard. Our son, Michael, joined our happy family on January 18th, 1960. And our daughter, Sharon, arrived on August 22nd, 1961. Our children spent many, happy hours, at Grandma’s house nearby. We farmed alongside my parents until June, 1970, when Mom and Dad retired to Souris and Annette and I bought the farm. When Michael and Denise married in July 1986, they moved into the farm house and Annette and I built a new house in Deleau, where we lived happily until Annette was hospitalized on April 14th and passed on April 25th in my arms and supported by the wonderful nurses in the Souris Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Annette and I have both enjoyed travelling over the years, and have travelled coast to coast in Canada and the United States, spending several winters in Arizona. We visited Hawaii three times, spent a month in Alaska, travelled to Churchill, and to Europe. In 2020, just as the Covid was starting, we took a wonderful Caribbean Cruise on a brand new ship. Annette’s funeral service was held from St Paul’s United Church, Souris on May 2nd with Tanis Podobni officiating. She was laid to rest in the Souris – Glenwood Cemetery on a beautiful, sunny and warm afternoon. Lunch and visitation followed, in the United Church Hall then supper at our house.
If friends so desire, donations in Annette’s memory, may be made to the Souris Hospital Palliative Care Unit c/o Prairie Mountain Health Box 10 Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, STARS Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
