Murphy, Cecil (Ted) Edmonde

Murphy — Cecil (Ted) Edmunde, Ted Murphy was born on January 20, 1929 to Vida Jackson and Joseph Murphy.  He was raised by his Grandma and Grandad Jackson on the same farm where he was born, west of Souris.  At the age of 10, he moved to Winnipeg with his Dad and step-mother Mary.  There he attended St. Paul’s and later West Kildonan Collegiate. At the age of 16 he left Winnipeg and headed west to Vancouver.  He worked at various jobs until he found a regular position working on a boat that travelled up and down the coastline. Eventually he returned to his Manitoba roots and began farming with his Grandad in 1947.  Here he remained for many years.  In 1950 he married Louise Joyal, and they raised 6 children together.  They also welcomed a foster daughter, Elizabeth, into their family for 3 years. Over the years Ted, along with Louise, tried their hand at many ventures such as market gardening, raising rabbits, pigeons, guinea pigs, dogs, and much more, while maintaining the family farm.  Farming for Ted included both milk and beef cattle, grain, horses, chickens, pigs, and you name it.  They enjoyed being active members in the Whitefield-Breezelawn community, going to many dances, travelling, gardening, and he especially enjoyed photography and planting the many trees that remain on the farm today.  But most importantly, he had an unyielding faith in God that guided him throughout his life. He was always proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and was especially proud to have had a 5 generation picture taken with his two great-great-grandsons this past summer. Ted passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014.  He was predeceased by his mother Vida (Jackson) Murphy, father Joseph Murphy, step-mother Mary Murphy, grandparents Tom and Adeline Jackson, sister Dorothy Finley, and wife Louise (Joyal) Murphy.  He is survived by his aunt Marg (Jackson) Harvey, brothers Donald (Jackie), John (Vel), children Jane (Richard), Pat (Wendy), Susan, Tim (Gwen), Chris (Dione), and Sean (Barb), as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Ted’s funeral and burial service was held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Donations can be made in memory of Ted to the Souris Hospital Palliative Care Fund c/o Prairie Mountain Health, Box 10 Souris, MB R0K 2C0.
