Druwe, Marie Christine Eliza

DRUWE – It is with loving thoughts and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Marie Druwe at her residence at Victoria Landing in Brandon, Manitoba on April 22, 2013. Marie Christine Eliza Druwe was born to Laure Marcq and Joseph Bertholet on July 5, 1928 in Grande Clairiere, Manitoba, the tenth of twelve children. She got her education there and at a young age of seventeen married Charles Druwe. Together they worked the family farm and raised their four children. Marie and Charlie were a team. They spent endless hours together in the hay field and milking cows. Marie loved cooking, gardening and knitting. Visitors to their home were always treated with homemade bread/buns, cinnamon buns and matrimonial cake, and as for her knitting, many of her family members may be seen wearing the mitts and socks she so lovingly knit. As the years passed, they increased their herd of cattle and got into dairy farming. They were committed to the morning and night milkings for many years until their retirement to Hartney and then to Brandon in 1980. There, they decided to enter the craft sale scene and there was soon a beaten trail to many rural towns where Marie and Charlie made their mark with their Christmas cakes, wooden crafts and knitted items. They later moved to Victoria Landing where Marie excelled at friendship, a trait which came easily to her. The two of them continued to enjoy visits from their family, playing cards and playing with their dog Belle. Marie’s greatest joy though was her children, grand and great-grandchildren who spent many hours in her loving arms being rocked to various French songs. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a great example of being beautiful inside and out. Marie was greatly saddened by the recent passing of her oldest daughter Sharon Fry of Calgary, Alberta. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Charles Druwe of Dinsdale Personal Care Home; daughter Claudette McPherson (Ian) of Panoka, Aberta; grandson Lee Reynolds (Kendra), great-granddaughter Layne, grandson Trevor Reynolds, great-granddaughters Rachel and Olivia; son Cyril Druwe (Kathy) of Hartney, Manitoba, grandson Joe Druwe (Whitney), granddaughter Ang (Tyler) Henderson, great-granddaughters Jaydee and Marlee, grandson Finn Druwe (Carly); daughter Connie Morrison (Darwin) of Kelowna, BC, granddaughter Jaycee Small (Joel), great-granddaughter Surie, granddaughter Channing Morrison, grandson Dru Morrison; grandson Rick Fry and great-grandson Reid. Marie is also survived by sisters Rita Denbow of Souris, Manitoba, Anne-Marie Bauche of Brandon, Manitoba and three sisters-in-law Edith Bertholet, Lena Bertholet and Marie Bertholet, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended families. A memorial service was held at Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home in Souris, MB on April 27, 2013. Cremation has taken place and a family service will be held at a later date for interment. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dexter at Kowalchuk’s Funeral Home and the staff at Victoria Landing and the Grande Clairiere choir. Thanks to Rita Denbow and family for hosting lunch and a time of fellowship following the memorial service in Souris. Thanks also to the many friends and relatives for your sincerity through meals and baking, cards and flowers, phone calls, visits and hugs and many other acts of kindness. And in Mom’s words…..LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU.

Boorman, Isabella Mabel

BOORMAN:  Isabella Mable, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 10, 2013 at the Souris District Hospital in her 86th year.  She was best known as Isabel, Issy or Aunty Belle to countless nieces and nephews.  Born on May 22, 1927 to John and Lydia Denbow, and she always felt truly blessed to have eleven siblings, ten brothers and one sister.  She was second youngest.  Isabel grew up on the home farm and was educated at Deleau, Manitoba.  At the age of 10 Isabel

Eisler, Nastia (Nellie)

Eisler: Nellie Eisler passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Souris Personal Care Home at the age of 97. Nellie was born November 10, 1915, fourth child of Nick and Pearl Baduik. She married John Eisler December 2, 1936 and together they raised four daughters. John and Nellie farmed in the Lily District and retired to Souris in 1957. Nellie was a caregiver all her life, caring for John’s parents and then John until his passing in 1973.

Nellie loved to garden, quilt, sew and make special meals for her grandchildren. Her door was always open when any of her family needed her help. She belonged to the UCW Unit #1, Rebeccas, WI, and spent many hours at the Thrift Shop. Nellie was predeceased by her parents, husband John, daughter Margaret Eisler, son-in-law Fred Kruk, two brothers and three sisters. Mom leaves to mourn three daughters, Elsie Kruk, Alice (Walter) Hale and Teenie (Mickey) Carlisle, eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. Funeral service was held at Souris St. Paul’s United Church with Reverend Wendy Rankin officiating. Pallbearers were Paul Kruk, Darryl Berry, Warren Hale, Jeremy Hale, Darrel Carlisle and Darcy Carlisle. Interment followed in Souris & Glenwood Cemetery. click to read more

Clemens, John Peter

CLEMENS – John Peter Clemens, March 25, 1924 – March 30, 2013. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Peter, beloved husband of Doris, father of Jan, Dave (Odette), Ger, Richard, Molly (Lawrence Thompson), Jim and Donna (Normand Bisson). Grandfather to 15 grandchildren, great-grandfather known as “Papa” to 9 great-grandchildren. Dad was born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA to John and Tressa Clemens March 25, 1924. Dad lost both his parents at a very young age. He had 5 sisters and 2 brothers, all have predeceased him. Dad worked many different jobs over the next few years. On January 6, 1943 he joined RCAF and was an amazing electrician. Dad met the love of his life, our Mom, Doris Rae Smith of Wellwood (Carberry). They married on July 8, 1950. Dad always called Mom “Dote” in a very loving way. From this marriage they raised 7 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters, whom he loved very much. While in the forces they travelled all over Canada. Dad retired from the forces as a Master Warrant Officer in 1977. The family settled in Rivers, MB in 1977. Dad started his own business J.P.C Electric. While doing some of the jobs he quite often took some of the boys with him to help but also even the girls. Dad fully retired around the 1980’s. Dad had a lot of passions in his life – Number 1 was his faith in God. Dad knew the Bible inside out. He taught his children the great love of Our Lord and Savior. Dad instilled the love of music in all his children, taught them to play the guitar and sing a lot of the older songs that he grew up with. Dad taught himself to play when he was only 8-years-old. Some of the highlights of his singing family were many: Appearing on the TV show The Co-op Hour, singing on the radio and TV talent shows and entertaining at many different care homes for the residents. Dad also was playing with the Twilighters of Souris, the Legare Band, he also played and sang at Music In The Park in Souris. Dad also enjoyed swimming, camping, cards. Dad had many friends, too many to mention them all. They are not forgotten, you all know who you are. Dad’s last few days on this earth were spent with his family surrounding him singing two evenings in a row. Dad your family misses you and love you dearly. Dad you left a legacy of music to your family and everyone who knew you. You were always there when we needed you, No task too great or small. With a loving heart and willing hand for us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us For the time we shared You will never be forgotten Dad, Because in our hearts You’re always there. God made a father so loving and kind, and we had the honor of calling him ours. It only takes a little space

Hardy, Pauline

 Hardy, Pauline passed away peacefully March 25, 2013 at the Hartney Health Center. Pauline was born December 25, 1914 and was the daughter of George Gartner and Elizabeth Stang of Primate, Saskatchewan.  Her Mother died when she was two and one-half years old.  She came to Hartney in 1939 and was a cook at the Hartney Hotel with Sam McBride.
